Pest Prevention
Insects and critters are making a comeback as the weather warms up. Spray your plants and trees to keep invasive insects away from them. Set up traps and/or use sprays to remove insects inside and critters outside like moles or mice. If you’ve got a bigger problem, like raccoons, you can try these tips or contact a local pest removal professional.
Clean Out Gutters and Downspouts
Cleaning out and repairing your gutters and downspouts after the harsh winter season is always a good idea. It will help you prevent any potential water damage during the wet spring season. Remove debris in your gutters and downspouts and make sure they are still firmly attached. Check for leaks and if necessary, caulk them. You may want to invest in a Gutter Guard to make this job easier in the future.
Assess HVAC Filter
Check the status of your HVAC filter and replace it if it’s in poor condition. A dirty one can increase your energy costs as you begin to use your air conditioning again. Plus, a clean one does a better job of filtering out the pollen and dust that come with the spring weather. Do your lungs and your friends/family with allergies a favor and make sure your HVAC filter is clean.
Mower Maintenance
Spring means you get the pleasure of mowing your lawn again! Yay! You should take some time to inspect your mower and address a few things. New plugs, an air filter, an oil change, and a blade sharpening should put it in tip-top shape. This typically costs around $100 for a professional to do but it is fairly simple for anyone to do if they have the tools and the time. Consistent mower maintenance means a longer life for your beloved grass cutter.
Fill Lawn Holes and Plant Seeds
You’ll need some clean dirt and some lawn seeds, both of which can be purchased at your local home improvement or gardening store. You might also need a shovel for major holes or low areas but usually, this can be done by hand. Fill them with the new dirt and sprinkle some lawn seeds over the top. Add another thin layer of dirt on top to prevent the seeds from blowing away and then dampen the area with water. Take this time to plant any other flowers, bushes, etc. that you like.
